Discourse Radio, currently on a 3-year hiatus, originally aired from 2006-2007 on Earthbound Radio. Our featured news brigade consisted of Living, Ali, King, and yours truly, kidragon. We followed a simple formula: a discourse in books & beats.

Alan Hawkshaw and Brian Bennett, the marvellous pair from KPM that gave us the killer funk “The Name of the Game”. Lots of wild material ! Tough breaks provided by Brian Bennett, loud bass lines and crazey clavinet ! Very funky and very useful if you are after dope LOOPs : “Mon amour” is a smooth funk, “Oddball” is hard funk electro with break, “Daytripper” is a fat funk number that could make a house hit, “Mile High Swinger” has a pure Hanged Man sound, while “Auto Pilot” has a pulsating groove with electric piano and synthesizer. Check “Driving Force” and “Pacesetter” too for electroid prog funk. Last but not least, “Funky Chicken” has funky synths & loops. And Alan Hawkshaw, Mister ‘Mohawks' himself, has to be heard on wah wah clavinet… Terrific !
I remember this from back in ‘91, lil 5th grader watching my older brothers dance to this. Back then crews like P.M.B.C. (Primitive Minds Beyond Control), Groove Brothers (G.Bros), & others were killin the circles, before the revival of bboyin in SD. An ode to me childhood…
Kenny Dixon Jr also known as Moodymann is a techno/house musician based in Detroit, Michigan. He creates a thoroughly hybrid form of techno/house dance music, jazz, soul, disco and funk via his innovative use of reworked riffs, samples (including old movie soundtrack samples mainly culled from the old blaxploitation and b-movie genres), and grooves taken from Detroit’s historically influential jazz, R&B, soul, funk, and disco scene. He is outspoken on the current state of dance music, decrying the lack of black techno and the white domination of the genre.
Note: first time I saw Question was back in ‘94 at the old World Beat Center. Easy Roc of the Rock Steady Crew was killing the cypher and Question was remaking the high pitched tone of Gangstar’s “Who’s Gonna Take The Weight”, as a lil 14 year old back then, I thought that joint was bananas! Made me realize that as a DJ, you can’t just be a jukebox on the decks…the only human element that can accompany a deep playlist is: SKILL! Bring the SKILL back into DJing please!
Manuel Göttsching E2-E4, released in 1984, is the first solo recording album by Ash Ra Tempel guitarist, Manuel Göttsching. The album consists of a minimalistic hour-long progressive electronic track that is subdivided into single tracks according to the stage of the song. The second half of the record is notable for Göttsching’s guitar playing. The album is named after the most popular opening chess move. It has been named as one of the best ’80s albums for its important role on the development of late ’80s and early ’90s house music genre.
Silver Apples are a psychedelic electronic music duo from New York City composed of Simeon Coxe III, who performs as Simeon, on a primitive synthesizer of his own devising (also named The Simeon), and until his death in 2005, drummer Danny Taylor. The group was active between 1967 and 1969, before reforming in the mid 1990s. They were one of the first groups to employ electronic music techniques extensively within a rock idiom, and their minimalistic style, with its pulsing, driving beat and frequently discordant modality, anticipated not only the experimental electronic music and krautrock of the 1970s, but also underground dance music and indie rock of the 1990s.
